Common Cold.

 ✵Common Cold: or colds, is an affliction of the lung-superficies by pathogenic wind, mainly manifested as fever, chills, headache, general aching, congested nose, sneezing, itching throat, and cough.

 ✵ The common cold, is a common disease, and are known in various types which caused mainly by various exogenous pathogens and affected by natural abnormal climates. The common familiar cold, are classified and known as: Wind-cold affliction(Feng Han Gan Mao), Wind-heat affliction(Feng Re Gan Mao),Summer-Qi affliction(Shu Qi Gan Mao),Dampness-Qi affliction(Shi Qi Gan Mao),Dryness-Qi affliction(Zao Qi Gan Mao),Dyspeptic Cold(Jia Shi Gan Mao), Qi-Stagnation affliction(Jia Qi Gan Mao).

 ✧In Western medicine, there is also a definition of cold, and normally it classified into different types, influenza(flu), common cold, hemorrhagic fever, bird flu(avian influenza), but the treatment method is mechanical and singular, use antibiotic as the main method whatever the cold types and whatever specific cases, as a result, the treatment of a common cold might need a patient to pay over a hundred or thousand, and normally not recover even in 10 days to 2 weeks.

 ✦ In the TCM system, different methods are developed according to syndrome differentiation and different pathogenic reasons, cost cheap and quickly effect, no negative result for individuals.

 ✧The common symptoms of common colds, are known including: nasal obstruction(stuffy nose), sneeze, running nose(rhinorrhea), have a fever, chills, headache or dizziness, aching limbs or ache all over the body, fatigue, and sleepiness.

Wind-cold affliction(Feng Han Gan Mao).

 ✵The Wind-cold affliction mainly caused by wind and cold, fever low normally below 38 Deg C(100.4 Deg F), fear cold and fear chills heavily, shed clear drivel(a Runny nose), not thirsty, do not want to drink, urine color clear, if also accompanied symptoms cough, phlegm clear and dilute, feel headache as wear a hoop on head, pale white tongue and smooth tongue observed, this is the case of Wind-cold affliction common cold which caused by wind and cold. It often troubles in late autumn or winter and spring.

Wind-heat affliction(Feng Re Gan Mao).

 ✵The Wind-heat affliction mainly caused by wind and heat, fever seriously, and body temperature normally over 38 Deg C(100.4 Deg F), fear cold slightly, or only fever and no fear cold, nasal mucus yellow thick, dry mouth and thirsty, want to drink water, cough, phlegm white or yellow, phlegm viscosity(sticky phlegm), expectoration not smooth slightly, urine color yellow, color of tongue sides and tongue end red and deep in color, dry tongue fur and not moisture, or accompanying swelling pain of throat. This is the case of Wind-heat affliction common cold which caused by wind and heat. It often troubles in spring or winter.

Summer-Qi affliction(Shu Qi Gan Mao).

 ✵The Summer-Qi affliction mainly caused by summer heat pathogens, fever, and body temperature normally over 38 or 39 Deg C(100.4 Deg F), fear cold slightly, dry mouth and thirsty, favor to drink cold water, face appearance flushing, headache and swelling, weak breath or shortness of breath, urine color dark yellow which looks like blood, urine volume small and short, oppression in the stomach duct, vexation and upset, tongue color dark red, tongue fur yellow and thick. This is the case of Summer-Qi affliction common cold which caused by summer heat pathogens. It often troubles in summer, from June to August.

Dampness-Qi affliction(Shi Qi Gan Mao).
TCM Knowledge:Common Cold 04 
 ✵The Dampness-Qi affliction mainly caused by dampness pathogens, fever, body temperature normally not very high, fear cold, heaviness of the head, head stuffy and headache, heaviness of limbs and sour, obstruction sensation at the chest and gastral cavity, face appearance depression and dark(sombre feeling), the tongue fur color white and thick, sticky slimy sensation in the mouth and not thirsty. This is the case of Dampness-Qi affliction which caused by dampness pathogens. It often troubled in July, August and early autumn days.

Dryness-Qi affliction(Zao Qi Gan Mao).
TCM Knowledge:Common Cold 05 
 ✵The Dryness-Qi affliction mainly caused by dryness pathogens, fever, fear cold, headache, body shape sour tired and lazy to move, no sweating, rhinobyon(nasal obstruction, stuffy nose), dry nostrils, dry mouth, dry throat, cough, less sputum and sticky sputum, tongue color red, tongue fur thin white and dry. This is the case of Dryness-Qi affliction which caused by dryness pathogens. It often troubled in autumn days, and most often trouble in end of autumn and early of winter.

Dyspeptic Cold(Jia Shi Gan Mao).
TCM Knowledge:Common Cold 06 
 ✵The Dyspeptic Cold could be observed in any of above cold types, before or during or after the cold, irregular appetite or food intake not proper, which result in the food stagnation in the gastral cavity and could not be digested. Except for those common symptoms of cold, additional symptoms observed including Epigastric Abdominal distension, Abdominal distending pain, eructation with fetid odor, nausea, and vomiting, diarrhea(loose bowels), poor appetite(do not feel like eating), etc. This is the case of Dyspeptic Cold or Jia Shi Gan Mao.

Qi-Stagnation affliction(Jia Qi Gan Mao).
TCM Knowledge:Common Cold 07 
 ✵The Qi-Stagnation affliction could be observed in common cold types, Except those common symptoms of cold, additional symptoms observed including:fullness in chest and hypochondrium or pain in chest and hypochondrium, epigastric fullness, vomiting and no appetite, or have a deep sign(great respiration), melancholia or depression, blue mood or low spirit. This is the case of Qi-Stagnation affliction or Jia Qi Gan Mao.
