Consumptive Thirst:Wasting Thirst, an introduction about its pathogenic reasons and etiology, syndrome differentiation and syndromes.

Syndromes of Traditional Chinese Medicine. ✵Traditional Chinese medicine has been used for thousands of years. Through thousands of years of practice, it has been proved that Chinese medicine is effective and feasible in treating diseases, preventing diseases and maintaining health. The treatment of diseases with traditional Chinese medicine has saved countless lives. The treatment of diseases in traditional Chinese medicine is macro and comprehensive.

 The theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine is derived from and guided by long-term clinical practice. Through the analysis of the phenomenon, the internal mechanism is explored. Therefore, this unique theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine has two basic characteristics, one is the overall-concept, the other is the dialectical treatment.

 The consumptive thirst or wasting thirst, is normally classified into 3 major types according to its major location. Namely, Shàng Xiāo (upper wasting-thirst), Zhōng Xiāo (middle wasting-thirst), Xià Xiāo (lower wasting-thirst).

 Shàng Xiāo, upper wasting-thirst, or upper diabetes: diabetes characterized by polydipsia, also known as Fèi Xiāo (lung diabetes).

 Zhōng Xiāo, middle wasting-thirst, or middle diabetes: diabetes characterized by polyphagia, emaciation, and constipation, also known as stomach diabetes or spleen diabetes.

 Xià Xiāo, lower wasting-thirst, or lower diabetes: diabetes characterized by polyuria with thick suspension in the urine, also known as kidney diabetes.

 Except for the three major types of Xiāo Kě, there are various syndromes belongs to the upper, the middle, and the lower, they are known as syndromes of the Shàng Xiāo type, syndromes of the Zhōng Xiāo type, and syndromes of the Xià Xiāo type, etc.

Syndromes related to Xiāo Kě.
Consumptive Thirst of Improper Diet and Drink Type.
 There are syndromes related to Xiāo Kě, Shí Yì, Jiǔ Kě (wasting thirst from addiction to wine), Chóng Kě (wasting thirst from parasites), Lèi Xiāo zhèng, these syndromes are introduced:

 Shí Yì: the ancient works Nei Jing (the Internal Canon) recorded,"the large intestine removes heat to the stomach, good in diet but thin, it is known as Shí Yì. The stomach removes heat to the gall bladder, it is also known as Shí Yì." Shí Yì is a syndrome with similar symptoms to Xiāo Kě;

 Jiǔ Kě: there is syndrome of Jiǔ Kě (wasting thirst from addiction to wine), due to addiction to alcohol drink, heat is accumulated in the interior, body fluid is dried and wither, polydipsia (excessive thirst) and drink much water, fond of cold things (cold diet and cold drink).

 Chóng Kě: there is syndrome of Chóng Kě (wasting thirst from parasites), due to parasites stay in Zang and Fu-viscera, exhaust the body fluid, and develops to Xiāo Kě (wasting thirst), it is known as Chóng Kě (wasting thirst of parasite type).

 Lèi Xiāo zhèng: there is a class of Xiāo syndrome, one is thirst and wants to drink water, but dislike after drinking one or two mouth of water, not as serious as ceaselessly drinking water of Xiāo Kě syndrome, it is due to deficiency and cold of the middle Qi, cold water-retention counterflowing upward, forced the free fire to throat and tongue, thus the upper wants to drink water for saving, when the water flows to the middle, meets the water retention, thus leads to dislike.

Incurable syndromes of Xiāo Kě.
Consumptive Thirst of Improper Diet and Drink Type.
 Incurable syndromes of Xiāo Kě, these syndromes are introduced:

 Incurable syndromes of Xiāo Kě: in cases of Xiāo Kě, one suffers from heat and fire for long days, Qi and blood stagnation. One could take diet, later it develops to nape carbuncle and carbuncle on the back; one can not take diet (cannot take food), later it develops to dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing food and drink), flatulence (tympanites). These are all syndromes of incurable type.

 Incurable syndromes of Xiāo Kě with bad prognosis: those syndromes of Shàng Xiāo, Zhōng Xiāo, Xià Xiāo, normally its prognosis is not good, are introduced:

 Shàng Xiāo, one suffers from great hyperactivity of heart fire, the lung is greatly hurt, drink one cup of water but urine two cups;

 Zhōng Xiāo, the stomach Yang is prosperous, the spleen Yin is in failure, diarrhea and cold in limbs (cold in hands and arms, feet and legs), after taking diet but feel hungry;

 Xià Xiāo, the kidney Yin is withering and exhausted, suffering from the pathogenic fire, spermatic fluid often flows out itself, and it is similar to oil and grease.
