Stem is upright, cylindrical, usually branched or not branched, glabrous, with conspicuous nodes; Simple leaves are alternate; petiole is 5~10 mm long; base has sheath-like membraneous stipule (peraphyllum), hazel (pale brown), the front tip is truncate, the edge has long cilia; leaf blade is oval(egg-shaped) or ovate-lanceolate, 3~8 cm long, 1.5~5.5 cm wide, the apex is blunt, the base is circular or cuneate, entire, with marginal seta (tricholoma), both surfaces are cyan (blue-green) when it is dried.

 Spica is terminal or axillary, arranged densely; flower bracts are campanulate (bell-shaped), almost herbaceous (grasslike), with cilia; flowers are small, red, perianth is 5-lobed, perianth lobes are ovate, rosiness (faint red); 6~8 stamens, shorter than perianth; pistil 1, 3 styles, style not stretching out, stigma is trifurcated.
