Sal Purpureum(Purple Rocksalt).

a big purple mineral crystal block of Sal Purpureum Pin Yin Name: Zǐ Náo Shā.
 English Name: Purple Rocksalt.
 Latin Name: Sal Purpureum.
Property and flavor: warm nature, tastes salty, bitter, pungent, toxic.

Brief introduction: The herb Sal Purpureum is mineral salts containing ammonium chloride, used externally for treating nebula and pterygium, and internally for treating cancer of the esophagus. The Sal Purpureum is a purple-colored rocksalt. The herb is commonly known as Sal Purpureum, Purple Rocksalt, Zǐ Náo Shā.

Mineral source: Herbal classic book defined the herb Sal Purpureum (Purple Rocksalt) as the halogenide class minerals purple stone salt crystal (Halite Violaceous). This commonly used mineral is introduced:

Purple stone salt crystal.

Mineral description: Purple stone salt crystal is also known as Halite Violaceous. The crystal structure belongs to the equiaxed crystal system (isometric system), most are compact block aggregates, angular or uneven, dark purple (dull purple) or violet red, the cleavage surface shows a greasy luster. Its hardness value is 2~2.5, brittle, and fracture is conchoidal, its relative density is 2.73, has hygroscopicity, soluble in water.

Halite Violaceous is formed in shallow bays and lagune zones (lagoons); due to the evaporation of seawater by heat, salt concentrations precipitate and separate out; there are also large deposits in inland salt lakes with closed currents in arid regions. It is mainly produced in the northwest area and other areas of China.

Natural environment: Halite Violaceous is formed in shallow bays and lagune zones (lagoons).

Distribution of resources: Halite Violaceous is mainly produced in the northwest and other areas of China.

Characters of herbs: The mineral has irregular, lumpy crystals. The surface is dark purple (dull purple), dull, or slightly glossy. It is heavy, the texture is firm and brittle, and it is easily smashed. The newly broken surface is violet red, with sand-like crystals, and twinkling. It feels cold in the hand. The herb has a smelly odor and a salty taste. The herb of a better grade is in orderly blocks, violet red, the broken surface is bright, no impurities.

Chemical composition: It mainly contains sodium chloride.

Pharmacological actions: ①.weak anti-tumor effect:the herb sal purpureum has a weak anti-tumor effect.

Medicinal efficacy: Break blood stasis and eliminate accumulation, softening hard mass and erode rotten part. It is indicated for abdominal mass, cardiac spasm and regurgitation, rhinopolypus (nasal polyp), pharyngitis (throat obstruction), nebula, carbuncle swelling, scrofula (glandular phthisis, lymphoid tuberculosis), malignant sore and warts, etc.

TCM Books: ①.Internally:prepare to finely ground herb powder, 0.6~1 grams; or prepare to pill, powder, not to decoction. Externally:prepare to finely ground herb powder, point apply, mixed and apply stick;or dissolve in water and point smear apply.
Contraindications,Precautions and Adverse Reactions: The herb Sal Purpureum should not be used overdose internally, should forbidden using in conditions during pregnancy, ucer, functional disorder of liver and kidney (hypohepatia, renal inadequacy).

Sal Ammoniacum(Sal Ammoniac).

Sal Ammoniacum Pin Yin Name: Bái Náo Shā, or Náo Shā.
 English Name: Sal Ammoniac.
 Latin Name: Sal Ammoniacum.
Property and flavor: warm nature, tastes salty, bitter, pungent, toxic.

Brief introduction: The herb Sal Ammoniacum is a colorless crystalline mineral salt mainly containing ammonium chloride. The herb is commonly known as Sal Ammoniacum, Sal Ammoniac, Bái Náo Shā.

Mineral source: Common official herbal classics and other famous herbal classics defined the herb Sal Ammoniacum (Sal Ammoniac) as the halogenide class minerals stone salt crystal (Stone RockSalt). This commonly used mineral is introduced:

Stone Rocksalt.

Mineral description: The crystal structure belongs to an equiaxed crystal system; crystals are generally granular, irregular lumpy, or fibriform aggregates; most crystals are crusty, membranous, colorless, white or pale gray, yellowish-white, or taupe (grayish brown); the crystal has a transparent vitroclastic luster (glassy luster) or translucent lacteous luster; the cleavage is incomplete; the fracture is conchoidal; its hardness value is 1.5~2, and the relative density is 1.52; the crystal is crispy, and the crystal has a salty and bitter taste; it is easily deliquate when exposed to air. The crystals are mostly found in a volcanic lava cave, sometimes they are produced in the burning coal seam (coal bed), and they are also found in bird manure sediment.

Natural environment: It is mainly produced in the northwest, west, and other areas of China.

Characters of herbs: The mineral herb is irregular flat lumpy crystals, the upper surface is coarse and rough, coarse crystalline-granular or papilla protrusions, white or grayish-white; the bottom surface is uneven, mostly compact and granular; faint yellow to yellow (sulfur color); the striations are white; the herb is light, brittle, and easily smashed; the fracture surface is fibrous; it has a vitroclastic luster (glassy luster); it has a sulfur odor, tastes salty and bitter, and has a strong tingling sensation; the herb is easily soluble in water, and slightly soluble in ethanol; the herb of a better grade is in whole blocks, white, the fracture surface is glossy, and free of impurities.

Chemical composition: Stone Rocksalt mainly contains ammonium chloride. Pure ammonium chloride is a colorless crystal. Modern sal, often made by hand, can be very high purity.

Medicinal efficacy: Eliminate accumulation and softening hard mass, break blood stasis and removing stasis, removing necrotic tissue and promoting granulation, reduce phlegm, induce diuresis (promoting urination). It is indicated for abdominal mass and xuan xuan (A disease that refers to cord-like mass beside the umbilicus of a woman), cardiac spasm and regurgitation, phlegm and retained fluid, pharyngitis (throat obstruction), dyspeptic dysentery (dysentery of endogenous dietary injury), amenia (menischesis), nebula, polyp, scrofula (glandular phthisis, lymphoid tuberculosis), carbuncle swelling, warts, hard furuncle, malignant sore, etc.
