Biography and legends:
Zhāng Xiǎo NiángZi, a famous surgeon, lived during the Song Dynasty. She was famous during the Jiayou period of the Northern Song Dynasty. According to legend and records, it is said that Zhang XiaoNiangZi was young. One day, a wandering herbalist passed by the door and asked her for a cup of water to drink. Zhang Xiaoniang noticed that he was a silver-bearded old man with a laudable tolerant spirit, she invited him into the house, gave him a seat to make tea, and enthusiastically served meals for him. Seeing that she was smart, virtuous, and diligent, the old herbalist taught her some secrets, including surgery and ointment preparation. He also presented her with a secret copy of Yong Ju Yi Fang (The Unusual Prescriptions for Carbuncle).
Years later, after constant practice, Zhang Xiaoniangzi finally became a lady physician proficient in surgery. Patients with sores, carbuncles, and swelling come to seek treatment, and with her diagnosis and treatment, they all have miraculous results.
After that, Zhang Xiaoniang became famous. She passed on the surgical techniques to her husband, and the couple became famous local physicians.
