According to Zhongjing's works, the main warm diseases (Wēn Bìng) are recorded as:Chūn Wēn (spring warm:spring warm disease), Qiū Wēn (autumn warm:autumn warm disease), Dōng Wēn(winter warm:winter warm disease), Dà Wēn (great warm:great warm disease), Fēng Wēn (wind-warm:wind-warm disease), Shī Wēn (damp-warm:damp-warm disease).
Taiyang warm disease (Tài Yáng Wēn Bìng).
According to Zhongjing's works, the warm disease (Wēn Bìng) is recorded as:
"Taiyang disease, fever and thirst, fever and thirst, not aversion to cold, is warm disease (Wēn Bìng). Taiyang warm disease, only fever, not aversion to cold."
[entry-01]. "Catch the warm disease, the tongue is red, dryness in throat, dysphoria with smothery sensation in the heart, the pulse is tense and rapid, up to the cunkou, warm pathogen affect the heart, ..."
[entry-02]. "Catch the warm disease, thirst, cough, hemorrhinia (bleed at the nose) is unstoppable, the pulse is floating, rapid and large, this is warm pathogen subujgating lungs, ..."
[entry-03]. "Catch the warm disease, fever, there is water Qi (edema) below the waist, in severe condition there is thermalgia in the lower abdomen (heat pain in the lower abdomen), urination is red and frequent, the pulse is tense and rapid, lower to chizhong, this is warm pathogen transmit to kidney, ..."
[entry-04]. "Catch the warm disease, purgation is applied and loose stool, should relieve itself; if purgation is applied, diarrhea, and it is unstoppable, surely abdominal distention (fullness in abdomen), ..."
[entry-05]. "Catch the warm disease, not treated with proper method, it stays for a long time and transmit to Sanjiao. It is in the Shangjiao (the upper energizer), then tongue turns inflexible, coma (unconsciousness), ... It is in the Zhongjiao (the middle energizer), then pain in the abdomen and has diarrhea, after diarrhea then pain in abdomen, dryness in lips and mouth, ... Likewise, it is in the Xiajiao (the lower energizer), heat below the waist, teeth turn black, dryness in throat, ..."
Chūn Wēn (spring warm:spring warm disease).
According to Zhongjing's works, the Chūn Wēn (spring warm:spring warm disease) is recorded as:
[entry-01]. "Being attacked by pathogenic cold in winter, the pathogenic Qi hides in Shaoyin, develops to warm disease in the spring, it is known as Chūn Wēn (spring warm:spring warm disease)."
[entry-02]. "The disease of Chūn Wēn (spring warm), its pathogenic Qi is in the upper, cephalea (headache), dry throat, fever, giddiness (dizziness), in severe condition, delirious speech (wild talks), the pulse is wiry and tense, ..."
Qiū Wēn (autumn warm:autumn warm disease).
According to Zhongjing's works, the Qiū Wēn (autumn warm:autumn warm disease) is recorded as:
[entry-01]. "Being attacked by pathogenic dampness in summer, the pathogenic Qi hides in Taiyin, great outbreak till drying days in autumn, develops to a warm disease, it is known as Qiū Wēn (autumn warm:autumn warm disease)."
[entry-02]. "The disease of Qiū Wēn (autumn warm), its pathogenic Qi is in the middle, fever and thirst, abdominal heat and pain (heat and pain in abdomen). If diarrhea and pass purulent matter (pus and blood), the pulse is large, short and choppy, ... If not pass purulent matter (pus and blood), ..."
Dōng Wēn (winter warm:winter warm disease).
According to Zhongjing's works, the Dōng Wēn (winter warm:winter warm disease) is recorded as:
[entry-01]. "The climatic factor which should not arrives but actually arrives, great cold at early winter, dryness is collected internally, its pathogenic Qi hides in Jueyin, after winter solstice, the weather should be cold, but instead it is warm, develops to a warm disease, it is known as Dōng Wēn (winter warm:winter warm disease). "
[entry-02]. "The disease of Dōng Wēn (winter warm), its pathogenic Qi is in the lower, fever, pain in the abdomen and dragging pain of the lower abdomen, dryness and pain in throat at midnight, the pulse is sunken and full, sometimes large and rapid, ...constipated for six or seven days, ..."
Dà Wēn (great warm:great warm disease).
According to Zhongjing's works, the Dà Wēn (great warm:great warm disease) is recorded as:
[entry-01]. "The weather in winter should be cold, contrary (to expectations), it is great warm, this is the climatic factor accumulates in its wrong season, not disease in the season (winter), and outbreak till spring, it is known as Dà Wēn (great warm)."
[entry-02]. "The disease of Dà Wēn (great warm), fever, dizziness, giddiness, teeth wither, parched lips, delirious speech (wild talks), in a coma (unconscious), the facial complexion color is suddenly blue and suddenly red, the pulse is tense, large and rapid, ...if the throat is closed, cannot swallow, ... If the pulse is suddenly scattered and suddenly rapid, endophthalmos (eyes sunken inside), will die."
Fēng Wēn (wind-warm:wind-warm disease).
Wind-warm disease (Fēng Wēn Bìng): an acute externally contracted febrile disease caused by pathogenic wind-heat, marked by external heat syndrome at the onset. According to Zhongjing's works, the Fēng Wēn(wind-warm:wind-warm disease) is recorded as:
[entry-01]. "Warm disease, cephalea (headache), facial complexion is reddish, fever, spasm of hands and feet, the pulse is floating, wiry and rapid, it is known as Fēng Wēn (wind-warm:wind-warm disease)."
[entry-02]. "Fēng Wēn (wind-warm), the patient usually has heat, and hurt by wind further, then develops to disease, the pulse is floating, wiry and rapid. If no cephalea (no headache), ..."
[entry-03]. "For Fú Xié Fēng Wēn (Latent wind-warm), perspiration was induced mistakenly, then great fever (severe heat) and dysphoria with smothery sensation, parched lips, red eyes, or hemorrhinia (bleed at the nose), or vomiting, deafness, the pulse is large and rapid, ...great excess case, ...if over ten days, it enters the interior, ... How to know it enters the interior? As the pulse is sunken and rapid, perturbed (vexed) and sleeplessness, thus know it."
According to works of later generation herbalist, wind-warm disease (Fēng Wēn Bìng) are mainly two types, Xīn Xié Fēng Wēn (Recent-pathogenic wind-warm), and Fú Xié Fēng Wēn (Latent wind-warm). These two types are introduced:
Xīn Xié Fēng Wēn (Recent-pathogenic wind-warm): warm pathogen attack from the interior, perspiration was induced mistakenly, the Wei Qi (defensive Qi) is sparse, wind pathogen attack again, two Yang combines with each other, contrary (to expectations), searing heat (high fever) of the body;
Fú Xié Fēng Wēn (Latent wind-warm): warm pathogen hide in the interior, sickness of Shaoyin, kidney essence is not hidden, endogenous wind easily move, pass out to the exterior from the interior, after perspiration, searing heat (high fever) of the body.
Shī Wēn (damp-warm:damp-warm disease).
Damp-warm (Shī Wēn) is also known as damp-warm disease. According to Zhongjing's works, the Shī Wēn(damp-warm:damp-warm disease) is recorded as:
[entry-01]. "Warm disease, the patient has dampness usually, fever, parched lips, diarrhea, abdominal thermalgia (heat and pain in the abdomen), the pulse is large and rapid, it is known as Shī Wēn (damp-warm:damp-warm disease)."
According to works of later generation herbalist, damp-warm disease (Shī Wēn) develops:
"The wind and cold pathogen, pass from the exterior to the interior, the damp-warm pathogen, pass from the interior to the exterior. Thus, at the onset of Taiyang disease, the steaming and depressed Qi, already distributes in the Sān Jiāo (triple energizers), thus alternation of fever and chill, fullness and hardness in chest and diaphragm, vomit, no appetite, or pain in abdomen (abdominal pain), constipated, or diarrhea with dilute foul water, the disease of the exterior and interior, often present together temporarily, above symptoms, not necessarily all observed, surely with thirst, tongue coating, this is the definite symptom of the damp-warm."
