✵Chest Impediment: The Chest Impediment is also known as chest discomfort. Its main symptoms are chest tightness, chest pain, even pain to the back, wheeze and could not sleep as the main manifestation, mild case feeling chest tightness, lack of breath, serious case chest pain, in severe case heart pain radiating to the back, backache radiating to the heart. In the ancient works Synopsis of Golden Chamber, herbalist Zhang Zhongjing put forward the name of "Chest Impediment" and summarized the pathogenesis as "weak pulse at YANG and stringy pulse at YIN".
✵Etiology: The occurrence of this syndrome normally related to cold pathogen internal attack, eating disorders, emotional indiscipline, internal injury from consumption and taxation, old age body deficiency, and other factors related, the pathogenesis of the disease has two aspects, deficiency, and excess.
(1).Cold pathogen internal attack, (2).Eating disorders, (3).Emotional disorder, (4).Internal injury from consumption and taxation, (5).Old age body deficiency.
✵The pathogenesis: The main pathogenesis of chest impediment is heart meridian numbness and obstacle, which is located in the heart and involves other Zang-viscera including the liver, spleen, kidney, and lung viscera.
Manifestations: main symptoms are chest tightness, chest pain, even chest pain radiating to the back, wheeze and could not sleep as the main symptoms, or chest tightness, breathing is not free, severe case chest pain, severe case heart pain radiating to the back, back pain radiating to the heart.
Common syndromes of Chest Impediment(Chest discomfort).
✦Common Chest Impediment syndromes are introduced:
1.Blood stasis syndrome: symptoms are blood stasis, obstruction of chest Yang, obstruction of heart meridian and pain in chest and heart, stabbing pain as twisted, fixed pain region, turn severe at night, even the heart pain radiating to the back, back pain radiating to the heart, or pain radiating to the back, accompanied by chest tightness, not healed in long days, can be aggravated by rage and anger, fatigue. Tongue dark purple, ecchymosis, tongue coating thin, etc.
2.Qi stagnation syndrome: symptoms are liver loss drainage, Qi stagnation, heart pulse not suitable and cause chest full of tightness, dull pain, hidden pain attacks from time to time and has a fixed region or location, want to sigh, easy to induced or aggravation when the will and emotion are not satisfied, or both abdominal distension, tongue coating thin or thin greasy, etc.
3.Phlegm obstruction syndrome: symptoms are turbid sputum, chest Yang lost elevating, obstruction of Qi, meridian and collateral block causing chest tightness and heavy, much sputum and short of breath, heavy limbs, obesity and fat, easy to attack or aggravated in rainy days, accompanied by fatigue and lack of power, anorexia(no appetite) and loose stools, cough and spit saliva and phlegm, tongue fat large and teeth marks on the edge, tongue coating turbid greasy or white slip, etc.
4.Cold heart syndrome: symptoms are Yang deficiency syndrome, Yin cold stagnate accumulated and obstruction of Qi and blood, weakness of heart Yang and sudden heart pain, heart pain radiating to the back, panting and could not lay down or sleep on the back, aggravated due to the climate turning cold or sudden wind-cold attack, accompanied by body cold, hands and feet not warm, cold sweat did not come out, chest oppression and short of breath, heart palpitations, pale complexion, tongue coating thin and white, etc.
5.Deficiency of Qi and Yin: symptoms are deficiency in heart Qi, Yin blood exhaustion, blood stasis and hidden pain in heart and chest, attack regularly, palpitation and shortness of breath, turn worse when moving, accompanied by fatigue and powerless, low voice and sound, complexion pale white, easy to perspire(easy sweating), tongue color purple-red, tongue body fat and edge have teeth marks, tongue coating thin white, etc.
6.Yin deficiency of heart and kidney: symptoms are water could not balance fire, deficient heat and internal burning, heart lost nourishing, arteries and veins not free lead to heart pain and oppression, palpitations and night sweat, dysphoria and restless sleep(vexed, upset, could not sleep), waist and knee pain, dizziness and tinnitus, dry mouth and constipation(difficulty in defecation), red tongue and lack of body fluid, tongue coating thin or peeling, etc.
7.Yang deficiency of heart and kidney: symptoms are decline and deficiency in Yang Qi, chest Yang not elevated, obstruction of Qi activity and not free, blood stasis and heart palpitations pain, chest oppression and short of breath, turns worse if more activities, spontaneous perspiration(spontaneous sweating), complexion pale white, fatigue in mind and afraid of cold, not warm in limbs(not warm in arms, legs, hands and feet) or swelling of limbs, tongue body pale and fat, tooth marks on the edge, tongue coating white or greasy, etc.
