 Brief introduction: The Herb Fructus Carpesii is the dried ripe fruit of Carpesium abrotanoides L., used as an anthelmintic for the treatment of ascariasis, enterobiasis, and taeniasis. The herb is commonly known as Fructus Carpesii, Common Carpesium Fruit, Hè Shī. Literally "Hè Shī" means lice on cranes.

The whole herb is also used as herb medicine and is known as Tiān Míng Jīng, it is different from Hè Shī (the dried ripe fruit). A perennial herb, the plant grows up to 50~100 cm tall; the stem is upright, the upper part is many-branched and densely pubescent, and the lower part is glabrate; leaves are alternate; leaf blades on the lower part are broadly elliptic or oblong, 10~15 cm long, 5~8 cm wide, the front end is pointed or obtuse, the base is narrowing and turns petiole with wings, the edges are irregularly serrate or entire, the upper surface has appressed short hairs, the under surface is covered with pubescence and glandular dots, leaf blades on the upper part gradually turn smaller, oblong, sessile.

 Many capitula (flower heads) are axillary and grow along stem branches, short stipitate or subsessile, 6~8 mm in diameter, upright or slightly pendulous; general involucre is campanulate spherical; involucral bracts are in 3 layers, bracts in the outer layer is extremely short, ovate, front end is apiculate (pointed), pubescent, bracts in the middle and inner layer are oblong, the front end is blunt, glabrous; flowers are yellow, corolla of peripheral female flowers is filiform (threadlike), 3~5-dentate lobed, corolla of the central hermaphroditic flower is tubular (tube-shape), the front end is 5-dentate lobed.

 Achenes are strip-shaped and have fine vertical stripes, and the front end has a short rostrum (beak), glandular points and no pappus. Its flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from September to October.
