Terra Flava Usta(Calcined Yellow Earth).
Description: It is also known as humus flava usta, Fú Lónɡ Gān (means Hibernating Dragon Liver), Zào Xīn Tǔ (means stove center earth), or Zào Zhōng Huáng Tǔ (means stove center yellow earth). The clod (earth blocks) in the center of the hearth of the old firewood stove. When disassembling and repairing the wood stove (or the wood kiln), take off the sintered clay blocks and cut off the blackened parts and impurities with a knife.
Ecological environment: It produces in rural areas all over China.
Characters of herbs: The herb is in irregular blocks of various sizes. The whole herb is orange or reddish-brown. There are knife marks on the surface. The herb is light, its texture is hard, but easily smashed, it has powders that fall off, and can be marked with scratches from nails, the fracture surface is soft and fine, slightly dark, granular, and there are faveolate holes (honeycomb holes). The herb has a smoky smell and mild taste, it has hygroscopicity. The herb of a better grade has big and tidy blocks, is reddish-brown, has honeycomb holes in the broken surface, and has a soft texture.
Chemical constituents: the herb is mainly composed of silicate acid (H2SiO3), alumina (Al2O3), and iron trioxide (Fe2O3). It also contains sodium oxide (Na2O), potassium oxide (K2O), magnesium oxide (MgO), calcium oxide (CaO), calcium phosphate [Ca3(PO4)2], etc.
Pharmacological actions: ①.antiemetic effect; ②.effect of astringency and hemostasis (stanch bleeding).
Medicinal efficacy: Warm the middle energizer and drying dampness, antiemetic effect, hemostasis (stanch bleeding), antidiarrheic (relieve diarrhea).
