Introduction: Herbs Regulating blood conditions,Herbs Hemostatics: the blood-regulating herbs are an agent or substance herbs that has the effects of regulating blood-including stopping bleeding and activating circulation-and tonifying blood.The herbs hemostatics or hemostatic herbs are an agent or substance that stops bleeding, either internal or external.
Hemostatic herbs have functions of stopping and stanching bleeding. Hemostatic herbs are used for syndromes of bleeding, such as hemoptysis, hemorrhinia, hematemesis, hematuria, hematochezia, uterine bleeding, purpura, traumatic bleeding, etc. According to the difference of its hemostatic functions, hemostatic herbs are classified into several kinds: ①.blood-cooling hemostatic herbs, ②.stasis-resolving hemostatic herbs, ③.astringent hemostatic herbs, ④.meridian-warming hemostatic herbs.
Blood-cooling hemostatic herbs are herbs that stanch bleeding by clearing the blood of heat, indicated in the treatment of blood-heat hemorrhage. Blood-cooling hemostatic herbs are mostly cold or cooling in nature, could stanch bleeding, clearing heat and cooling blood, normally used for hemorrhage syndrome due to blood-heat, with symptoms bright red blood, concentrated and thick, with fever, or no fever but fidget, red in the face and ears, dry throat and mouth, or thirst and want to drink, red tongue and yellow tongue coating, etc. Blood-cooling hemostatic herbs are often combined with heat-clearing and fire-purging herbs, and these kinds of herbs should not be used for cold syndromes. Representative herbs of this kind are Herba seu Radix Cirsii Japonici (Dà Jì), Flos Sophorae (Huái Huā), and other herbs including Radix Sanguisorbae (Dì Yú), Herba Cirsii (Xiǎo Jì), Herba Capsellae (Jì Cài), Radix Boehmeriae (Zhù Má), Rhizoma Imperatae (Bái Máo Gēn), Cacumen Platycladi (Cè Bǎi Yè), Radix Rumecis Patientiae(Niú Xī Xī), etc.
Stasis-resolving hemostatic herbs are herbs that stanch bleeding and at the same time removes stagnant blood which may cause further bleeding. Stasis-resolving hemostatic herbs are good in stanching bleeding, also resolving stasis, helps to resolving blood stasis and also stanch bleeding, these herbs are mainly used for hemorrhage syndrome due to blood fails to circulate in the vessels for stagnant blood blocking, and also used for other external bleeding, injuries from falls, menostasis, etc. Representative herbs of this kind are Radix Notoginseng (Sān Qī), Radix Rubiae (Qiàn Cǎo), and other herbs including Pollen Typhae (Pú Huánɡ), Ophicalcitum (Huā Ruǐ Shí), etc.
Astringent hemostatic herbs are herbs that stanch bleeding by its astringent action, indicated in various types of hemorrhage, but not in those associated with excessive pathogens or blood stasis. Astringent hemostatic herbs are bitter and puckery in flavor, neutral in property, have functions astringency and hemostasis, detoxification and relieve dysentery, preventing malaria and kill parasites, these herbs are mainly used for various kinds of hemorrhage syndrome, especially obvious in treatment of deficiency, insufficiency, and bleeding from traumatic injury, normally charred herbs are used. Representative herbs of this kind are Rhizoma Bletillae (Bái Jí), Crinis Carbonisatus (Xuè Yú Tàn), and other herbs including Herba Agrimoniae (Xiān Hè Cǎo), Petiolus Trachycarpi Carbonisatus (Zōnɡ Lǘ Tàn), Nodus Nelumbinis rhizomatis (ǒu Jié), Herba Orostachyos (Wǎ Sōnɡ), etc.
Meridian-warming hemostatic herbs are herbs that are warm or hot in property, and stanch bleeding by warming the internal viscera, replenishing spleen Yang and strengthening the thoroughfare vessel, effective for treating hemorrhages due to failure of the spleen to control blood or insecurity of the thoroughfare vessel. Meridian-warming hemostatic herbs have functions stanching bleeding, warming the interior and dissipating cold, are used for bleeding of deficiency cold type, and some herbs also have functions of pain relieving. These herbs are warm and drying in property, should not be used for hemorrhage syndrome due to excessive heat and fire excess. Representative herbs of this kind are Folium Artemisiae Argyi (ài Yè), and other herbs including Terra Flava Usta (Zào Xīn Tǔ), Baked Ginger (páo jiāng), etc.
