✵The postpartum fainting is fainting occurring following childbirth due to various reasons. The different pathogenic reasons and related syndromes are introduced.
✧ In the TCM system, the pathogenic reasons for the postpartum fainting are excessive loss of blood, residue and stagnant blood flow into the liver meridian, symptoms are seeing black flower, dizziness and dazzled, could not sit up, or even lethargy and unconscious, is the case of postpartum fainting. In the cases of fainting, blood heat counter flow upward to the heart for the deficiency, thus lead to dizziness and vertigo, short of breath and unconscious, mainly because of fainting for overuse mind and thinking, or fainting for loss excessive blood, or fainting for loss small amount blood.
✦ In the case postpartum fainting for loss excessive menstrual bleeding, symptoms observed are dizziness, depressed, vexed and emotionally upset.
✦ In the cases postpartum fainting for lose less menstrual bleeding, symptoms observed are lochiometra(retention of the lochia), blood counter flow upward to the heart, fullness and urgency below the heart, coma(unconsciousness) and lockjaw, inability to recognize people(clouding, loss of consciousness).
✦ In the case of postpartum fainting for sudden deficiency of Qi and blood, not harmonize in peace, the blood follow the Qi and counter flow upward, confused the heart and mind, thus will see flowers. In serious cases, fainting and loss consciousness, coma and lockjaw. It might be misdiagnosed as dark wind-stroke, if treated as dark wind-stroke, it is difficult to be relieved.

✵The postpartum fainting is also known as blood-fainting, its symptoms observed are seeing black flowers, dizziness, and vertigo, unconsciousness. The pathogenic reasons are also including: (1). Tiredness and serious strain lead to Qi exhaustion and dizziness; (2).loss of blood in big volume and Qi is nearly exhaust; (3). Phlegm and fire pathogens subjugating the deficiency and going upward, as a result spirit is unclear.

Phlegm and fire pathogens subjugating the deficiency and going upward, as a result spirit is unclear. For cases suffer from above mentioned three conditions, the Hun(ethereal soul) does not follow the Shen(the vitality), almost dizziness and stopped." [04].
"A woman suffers from blood fainting after childbirth, what is it? Sudden deficiency of Qi and blood, not get quiet, blood stasis going upward with reverse Qi, disturb the mind, as a result, dim eyesight and dizziness, even lockjaw, coma(unconsciousness), Qi cold...should not be treated as a syndrome of postpartum wind(spasm in limbs, grind one's teeth, staring eyes and trembling of chills)." [05].
"Dizziness depression, lost consciousness(unconsciousness), due to stasis blood blocking the heart..., there are cases fainting due to blood insufficiency, ...there are cases of fainting due to blood excess." [07].
"Yu Mao(fainting and unconscious): a woman suffers from blood deficiency and much perspiration, affected by wind, as a result, syncope; loss blood and sweating with much cold, as a result, lead to cold; loss of body fluid, dryness in the stomach, as a result, difficulty in defecation. These three syndromes are different but pathogenic reasons are related to each other. In the condition of stomach deficiency and no appetite after childbirth, normally dizziness dazzled and mind is not clear, or syncope, is the condition of Yu Mao(fainting and unconscious)...
Blood fainting: a woman suffers from blood fainting after childbirth, due to sudden deficiency of Qi and blood, blood flows upward, confused the heart and mind, as a result, flowers occur before eyes, in severe condition even depression, unconscious and lockjaw, dazzled and Qi turns cold..." [08].Different types are introduced:
⑴. A woman suffers from blood fainting, loss much blood and fainting unconscious, only dizziness depression vexed and irritable...
⑵. A woman suffers from blood fainting, loss less blood and fainting unconscious, due to residue lochia flow upward and affect the heart, pain and fullness below the heart, dizziness unconscious and lockjaw, lost consciousness..."A woman suffers from Ma Mao(numbness and fainting, dizziness) after childbirth, all due to Qi and blood deficient and insufficient, could not support the whole body..." [09].Different types are introduced:
⑴.A woman suffers from Ma Mao(numbness and fainting, dizziness) after childbirth, due to Qi and blood deficiency and insufficiency, could not support the body.
⑵.A woman lose excessive blood after childbirth, numbness of hands and feet, great pain in the lower abdomen, numbness and fainting of the whole body, unbearable and willing to die. It is not due to residue lochia stagnancy and stasis, but is a deficiency with phlegm.
✵Woman fainting, is also attributed to pathogenic reasons including: worry hurt the spleen, etc.

This is the condition due to worry hurt the spleen, spleen is hurt and no appetite, reduced appetite lead to exhaustion of the heart Qi, as a result, dizziness and fainting.
A woman suffers from fainting and dizziness, no appetite, her husband go outing and met a disaster, what is it? This is the condition due to worry hurt the lung.
A girl was unmarried until twenty years old, each time saw a man, she suddenly bites the man's arm, gradually fainting, what is it? This is the condition the desire fire is excessive and no channel to discharge." [05].
✵Woman fainting, is also attributed to pathogenic reasons including: residue blood flow into the liver meridian, etc.

✵The Postpartum fainting of other types and cases are introduced:
✧A woman suffers from fainting after childbirth, depressed(depression), this is the case of postpartum fainting with depression; or fainting after childbirth, depressed and confused, in a trance(absent-minded) and similar as see a ghost, this is the case of postpartum fainting with depression and confusion.
✧A woman suffers from fainting after childbirth, wild talk and inability to recognize people(loss of consciousness), mania(frantic and madness), this is the case of postpartum fainting with wild talk and coma mania.
✧A woman suffers from fainting after childbirth, wild talk, incessant polydipsia(incessant vexation and thirst, or incessant fidget and thirst), this is the case of postpartum fainting with wild talk and polydipsia.
✧A woman suffers from fainting after childbirth, in a coma or in a dead faint(unconscious senseless fainting), risks, this is the case of postpartum fainting with high risks.
✧A woman suffers from fainting after childbirth, blood flow into the heart meridian, incoherent speech(talk incoherently, one's speech was incoherent and confused), amnesia and(forgetful, bad memory), breaks annals, this is the case of postpartum fainting with blood counter flow to the heart.
- Postpartum syncope.

✵The postpartum syncope is a syncope syndrome occurring following childbirth. The common pathogenic reasons for postpartum syncope are: tiredness and strain hurt the spleen, the spleen lost its transporting functions and other Zang-viscera lost support, etc.

As the book Nei Jing(the Yellow Emperor's Inner Cannon) said: Yang deficiency at the lower, then develops to cold syncope..." [04].
"A woman was suddenly affected by wind and cold in four to five days after childbirth, syncope, is the condition due to deficiency of Yang Qi, and exhaustion of Yin blood, also is affected by cold pathogen..." [08].
