There are about 250 kinds of Fungus of the Ganoderma genus, in China, there are almost 98~100 species of fungus found to belong to the 4 Ganoderma genera, and Ganodermataceae family, they grow and spread from south to north.
Botanical description: Ganoderma shandongense.J.D.Zhao et L.W.Hsu is a fungus of the Ganodermataceae or Polyporaceae family and Ganoderma genus, it is commonly known as Mountain East Ganoderma. The basidiocarp (fruiting body) is annual or perennial, petiolate, suberinite or ligneous. The pileus (cap) is horseshoe-shaped (U-shaped), the surface has many concentric annular zones, the upper surface is pale reddish-brown or fawn color (flavotestaceous), has a lacquer luster, 2.5 × 1.8 cm, the thickness is about 2.5 cm; the edge is entire (complete.), slightly involute (rolled inward); the context is pale white (whitish). The fungus tube is hazel (pale brown), about 3 cm long; the pore surface is whitish or slightly pale yellowish white; and the tube orifice is orbicular, entire (complete.), 4–5 per mm, slightly decurrent. The prosthecae (stipe) is pale reddish-brown, dorsiferous, slightly curved, diameter is 0.7–1 cm, length is up to 10 cm, part is flat, the same color as the pileus (cap), sometimes with a strong lacquer-like luster.
The husk structure is an irregular sporiferous layer type, nearly colorless to hazel (pale brown), compositive hyphae are clavate, the tip is enlarged or irregularly enlarged, sometimes is shallow split, usually is 4.5–7.5 μm wide, uneven in length, and length is 20–25 μm.
The mycelial system is three-body type: generative hypha are transparent, leptodermous (thin wall), 3.5–5 μm in diameter; skeletal hyphae are hazel (pale brown) to slightly brownish, pachypleurous (thick-walled) to farctate, have arborizations (dendritic branching), skeletal part is 3.5–4 μm in dry diameter, flagelliform colorless binding hypha is formed at the end tip of branches; binding hypha is colorless, pachypleurous (thick wall), branches are nearly orthogonal, 1.5–2 μm in diameter.
The basidiospores are long oval, sometimes the tip is slightly truncated, hazel (pale brown) to brown, double wall, the outer wall is colorless and transparent, smooth, the inner wall is colored and has distinct spinules, 12–13.5(–15) × 6.5–9 μm.
Ecological Environment: Ganoderma shandongense.J.D.Zhao et L.W.Hsu grows in the forest and mountains. This species is mainly distributed in Jinan Changqing District in Shandong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou in China. This species has functions to enhance immunity, calm the mind, etc. It is also used to make potted landscapes.
