Botanical description: Ganoderma ahmadii Steyaert is a fungus of the Ganodermataceae or Polyporaceae family and Ganoderma genus, it is commonly known as Quasi-tropical Ganoderma, or Ni Re Dai LingZhi, encarpium (fruiting body) is annual, petiolate, suberinite or ligneous. Pileus (cap) is orbicular or nearly fan-shaped, 4.6–8 × 4–6.5 cm, thickness is 3–7 mm, fusco-testaceous(dark reddish-brown), puce (purple brown) to dirty purple brown, slightly concave in the center or nearly funnelform (nearly funnel-shaped), rugulose, unlustrous or with a weak luster; entire, whitish to fawn color (flavotestaceous), width is 3–5 mm, intact, the under surfacer is sterile; the context has well-proportioned color of pale brown or dark brown, 2–3 mm thick; fungus tube is very short, not more than 1 mm long; hole surface is whitish or dirty white, tube orifice is slightly rounded, 5–6 per mm.
The prosthecae grows near the center or is lateral, subcylindrical (nearly cylindrical), or slightly rounded, 4–10.5 cm long, 1–1.5 cm in diameter, single or connected at the base, with a strong lacquer-like luster.
The husk structure is an irregular sporiferous layer type, hazel (pale brown) to brown, compositive hyphae are clavate, arranged irregularly; the enlarged part at the top is usually 5–7 μm wide; and the length is 25–30 μm.
The mycelial system is three-body type: generative hypha is colorless and transparent, thin wall, 2.5–6 μm in diameter; skeletal hyphae are slightly brownish to hazel (pale brown), pachypleurous (thick wall) to farctate, arborizations (dendritic branching), skeletal is 3–5 μm in dry diameter, flagelliform colorless binding hypha is formed at the tip of branches; binding hypha is colorless, pachypleurous (thick wall), 1–2 μm in diameter.
The basidiospores are elliptic, broadly elliptical, or oval (egg-shaped), double-walled; the outer wall is colorless and transparent, smooth, and the inner wall is pale brown, and has spinules. 7.5–10 × 5–6.3 μm.
Ecological Environment: Ganoderma ahmadii Steyaert grows on underground rotten wood in the broad-leaved forest. This species is mainly distributed in Lingao County, Haikou, Xinglong County, Jianfengling, Diaoluoshan of Hainan, Kunming Hot Springs, Yunnan, China. It is also distributed in regions of South Asia.
