Botanical description: Ganoderma boninense Pat is a fungus of the Ganodermataceae or Polyporaceae family and Ganoderma genus, it is commonly known as Long Narrow Spore Ganoderma, or Xia Chang Bao LingZhi, encarpium (fruiting body) is annual, sessile or stout, corky to woody. The pileus (cap) is slightly circular, 9.5 × 9 cm, the thickness is about 1.2 cm, the surface is dark purple, has fine, dense, and clear concentric ring patterns and radial wrinkles, with a lacquer luster; the edge is obtuse; the upper layer of context is brown, the part near the fungus tube is bistre (dark brown), about 0.3 cm thick. The fungus tube is brown, 0.8 cm long; the pore surface is brown; the tube orifice is slightly circular; and the wall of the tube is thick, 5 per mm (millimeter). The prosthecae are dorsiferous, 0.8 cm long, and about 3 cm in diameter.
The husk structure is irregular sporiferous layer type, hazel (pale brown) to brown, and compositive hyphae are clavate, the tip is enlarged, lobed, or fusiform (spindle-shaped), usually 3–6.7 μm wide, 25–30 μm long.
Mycelial system is three-body type: generative hypha are transparent, thin wall, 3–4 μm in diameter; skeletal hyphae are nearly colorless to hazel (pale brown), pachypleurous (thick wall) to farctate, arborizations (dendritic branching) or acicular (acerous), skeletal hyphae are 3–4.5 (–5) μm in diameter, flagelliform colorless binding hypha is formed at the tip of branches, pachypleurous (thick wall), 1–2 μm in diameter.
The basidiospores are narrowly ovate or slightly truncated at the top, double-walled; the outer wall is colorless, transparent, and smooth; the inner wall has inconspicuous spines, fawn color (flavotestaceous), 9.2–12 × 5.7–7.9 μm.
Ecological Environment: Ganoderma boninense Pat grows in mountains and woods. Geographical distribution: This species is mainly distributed in Diaoyunshan, Hainan, and Guangdong, China. It is also distributed in Central America.
