Introduction: Herbs Regulating the Flow of Qi: also known as Qi-regulating herbs, an agent or substance that regulates the activity of Qi to treat Qi stagnation or adverse Qi flow, also known as Qi-moving herbs.
Qi-regulating herbs mostly are warm in nature, pungent, bitter in flavor, have aromatic scent, and have functions of regulating Qi flow, smooth Qi stagnation, calm the adverse-rising Qi. Qi-regulating herbs are used for Qi stagnation of spleen and stomach, abdominal fullness and distention with pains, Qi stagnation in chest, obstruction of Qi in chest with pains, stasis of liver Qi, distending pain in hypochondrium, breast distending pain, lump and mass in breast, colic, irregular menstruation, stomach Qi upward reversal, vomiting and belching, etc. Qi-regulating herbs are mostly warm and drying in nature, warm in flavor, easily exhaust Qi and hurt Yin, should not be used at big dosage for those with Qi deficiency and Yin insufficiency.

Brief Introduction: The herb Fructus Aurantii Immaturus is the dried small immature fruit of Citrus aurantium L and its cultivated varieties or Citrus sinensis Osbeck with a diameter under 2.5 cm(family Rutaceae), used for treating dyspepsia, constipation and abdominal distension due to food stagnation, and served in large doses for treating visceroptosis. The herb is commonly known as Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, Immature Orange Fruit, Zhǐ Shí.
Fructus Aurantii (Orange Fruit).
Brief Introduction: The herb Fructus Aurantii is the dried immature fruit of Citrus aurantium L and its cultivated varieties Citrus sinensis Osbeck with a diameter between 3~5 cm(family Rutaceae), used in the same way as immature orange fruit, with a milder effect. Caulis Perillae (Perilla Stem).
Brief Introduction: The herb Caulis Perillae is the dried stem of Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt., or Perilla furtescens (L.) Britt.var.purpurascens (Hayata ) H.W.Li (family Labiatae), used to regulate the flow of Qi, relieve pain and calm the fetus for the treatment of stuffiness in the chest, epigastric pain, eructation, vomiting and threatened abortion. Kosterm (family Lauraceae), used to move Qi, alleviate pain, warm the kidney and dispel cold for relieving distension and pain in the lower abdomen, frequent micturition, and enuresis. The herb is commonly known as Radix Linderae, Combined Spicebush Root, Wū Yào.
Semen Aesculi (Buckeye Seed).
Brief Introduction: The herb Semen Aesculi is the dried ripe seed of Aesculus chinensis Bunge., Aesculus chinensis Bunge var. chekiangensis (Hu et Fang) Fang., or Aesculus wilsonii Rehd (family Hippocastanaceae), used to regulate Qi, harmonize the stomach and alleviate pain for relieving distension and stuffiness in the chest and abdomen, and especially gastralgia. The herb is commonly known as Semen Aesculi, Buckeye Seed, Chinese Buckeye Seed, Wilsom Buckeye Seed, Suō Luó Zǐ.
Aspongopus (Stink-bug).
Brief Introduction: The herb Aspongopus(Stink-bug) is the dried body of Aspongopus chinensis Dallas (family Pentatomidae), used to (1).to regulate Qi and alleviate pain for treating epigastric distension and pain, and (2).to invigorate the kidney for treating impotence and lumbago. The herb is commonly known as Aspongopus, Stink-bug, Jiǔ Xiānɡ Chónɡ.
Flos Mume (Plum Flower).
Brief Introduction: The herb Flos Mume is the dried flower-bud of Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc (family Rosaceae), used to regulate Qi, ease the mind and resolve phlegm for treating depression, fidgetiness, hypochondriac, and epigastric pain, and globus hystericus. The herb is commonly known as Flos Mume, Plum Flower, Méi Huā.
Bulbus Allii Macrostemoni (Longstamen Onion).
Brief Introduction: The herb Bulbus Allii Macrostemoni is the dried bulb of Allium macrostemon Bunge., or Allium chinense G. Don (family Liliaceae), used to unblock and regulate Yang-Qi and remove stagnation in the treatment of angina pectoris with stuffiness sensation in the chest, and also for treating tenesmus in cases of dysentery.
