Botanical description: Ganoderma luteomarginatum J.D.Zhao,L.W.Hsu et X.Q.Zhang is a fungus of the Ganodermataceae or Polyporaceae family and Ganoderma genus, it is commonly known as Ganoderma luteomarginatum., Yellow edge Ganoderma, or Huang Bian LingZhi. Basidiocarp (fruiting body) is annual, petiolate, suberinite to ligneous. The pileus (cap) is semicircle (semicircular), slightly rounded, nearly fan-shaped, sometimes spatulate, thin, 3–4.4 × 5.5 cm, thickness reaches 0.5 cm, the surface is dark brown or darkish brown (dust-color), has lacquer-like luster and radial vertical wrinkles, concentric rings are indistinctive (inconspicuous); the edge is thin, tawny (yellow brown), the lower edge is fertile; the context is well-proportioned brown or bistre (seal brown), thickness is 0.1–0.4 cm; fungus tube is 0.1–0.4 cm long, hazel (pale brown), taupe (dust color) or brown; pore surface is stained white (dirty white) to fuscid (stained brown) or brown; tube orifice is orbicular, 4–6 per mm; the prosthecae is pleurogenous or dorsiferous, unequal in diameter, gradually accrescent downward, length is 6–19 cm, 0.5~11 cm in diameter, the same color as the pileus (cap), or almost black, glossy.
The husk structure is sporiferous layer type, hazel (pale brown), compositive hyphae are clavate, the tip is enlarged, the enlarged part usually is 4.0–6.0 μm wide, and the length is 20–25 μm.
The mycelial system is three-body type: generative hyphae are colorless and transparent, leptodermous (thin wall), 3–2.7 μm in diameter; skeletal hyphae are hazel (pale brown), pachypleurous (thick-walled) to farctate, have arborizations (dendritic branching) or are acicular, skeletal part is 3–4.5 μm in dry diameter; flagelliform colorless binding hypha is formed at the end tip of branches; binding hypha is colorless, pachypleurous (thick wall), 1.5–2 μm in diameter.
The basidiospores are oval (egg-shaped), the tip end is mostly truncated, double wall, the outer wall is colorless and transparent, smooth, the inner wall is hazel (pale brown), and the inner wall has spinules, 8.7–10.4 x 5.2–7 μm.
