Botanical description: Ganoderma simaoense J.D.Zhao is a fungus of the Ganodermataceae or Polyporaceae family and Ganoderma genus, it is commonly known as Ganoderma simaoense., or Simao LingZhi. The basidiocarp (fruiting body) is annual, sessile, suberinite or ligneous. The pileus (cap) is pulvinate to colliculose, 3–5 × 4–9 cm, 4–6 cm thick, the surface near the base is dark brown (black brown), has lacquer-like luster, no annule, color toward edge gradually turns from brown to hazel (pale brown), the edge is blunt, entire, the lower border is infertile; the context is well-proportioned brown, fibrous, has no chitinous layer (shell layer), 4–6 cm thick, has inconspicuous concentric ring veins, it turns black when it meets aqueous KOH aqueous solution (water solution of Potassium hydroxide); the fungus tube is 2–4 mm long, hazel (pale brown); pore surface is pale yellowish white, uneven; tube orifice is orbicular, 3–5 per mm.
The husk is thin, the cross-section is dark brown (black brown), the enlarged tip of compositive hyphae is 3–7 μm wide, in the shape of a nearly irregular womb-shape of the same diameter, covered with black glutinous substance, and the apical part is uneven, sometimes has a diaphragm.
The mycelial system is three-body type: generative hyphae are colorless and transparent, leptodermous (thin wall), 2.0–4.5 μm in diameter; skeletal hyphae are bifurcated or acicular, skeletal part is hazel (pale brown), 3–5 μm in diameter, pachypleurous (thick wall), flagelliform colorless binding hypha is formed at the end tip of branches; binding hypha is colorless, pachypleurous (thick wall), 1.5–2 μm in diameter.
The basidiospores are elliptic, double wall, the outer wall is colorless and transparent, smooth, the inner wall is hazel (pale brown), and the inner wall has no spinules, 6–7.5 × 3.7–4.5 μm.
Ecological Environment: Ganoderma simaoense J.D.Zhao grows in mountains and forests. Geographical distribution: This species is mainly distributed in Simao, Yunnan province. Worldwide, it is distributed in China.
