Botanical description: Ganoderma tibetanum J.D.Zhao et X.Q.Zhang is a fungus of the Ganodermataceae or Polyporaceae family and Ganoderma genus, it is commonly known as Ganoderma tibetanum, Ganoderma leucocontextum, or Xizang LingZhi. The basidiocarp (fruiting body) is perennial, it is an oblate sphere with a hard peridium, ligneous, and has no distinctive pileus (cap). The spheroids (oblate sphere) have a lacquer-like luster, dark brown (black brown) to black, have irregular concentric ring grooves, are about 6 cm in diameter, 3 cm thick, hollow, and peridium is 1.5–2 mm thick; the context and fungus tube grow in the hollow cavity, the former is well-proportioned dark brown (deep brown), about 3 mm thick, mixed with a white mycelial mass; the latter is brown, 3–4 mm long, the old fungus tube layer turns white, about 1 cm thick; pore surface is brown, uneven (not flat); tube orifice is slightly rounded, about 3 per millimeter. It has no prosthecae.
The husk structure is composed of many cylindrical hyphae, nearly colorless to brown, apex is not swollen, usually 2–2.5 μm wide, uneven in length, generally, 20–37 (–45) μm long, and ends are not on the same horizontal line, its upper part is covered with transparent substances of different shapes, this kind of hull structure is special.
The mycelial system is a three-body type: generative hyphae are colorless and transparent, leptodermous (thin wall), 2.6–3.0 μm in diameter; skeletal hyphae are hazel (pale brown) to brown, pachypleurous (thick wall) to farctate, arborizations (dendritic branching), skeletal part is 4–5 μm in dry diameter, flagelliform colorless binding hypha is formed at the end tip of branches; binding hypha is colorless, pachypleurous (thick wall), ramificate, mostly curved, 1–2 μm in diameter.
The basidiospores are oval (egg-shaped), the tip is umbilical shape, or slightly truncated, double wall, the outer wall is colorless and transparent, smooth, the inner wall is hazel (pale brown), and the inner wal has conspicuous spinules, 10.4–14 × 7.4–8.7 μm.
